Since either voice can carry the melody depending on the tune, parts are grouped by register rather than role:

High Voice

  • C, treble clef → Flute, Oboe, Violin
  • B♭, treble clef → Trumpet, Clarinet, Soprano Sax
  • E♭, treble clef → Alto Sax

Low Voice

  • B♭, treble clef → Tenor Sax
  • C, bass clef → Trombone, Bassoon, Cello
